The Suzuki V-Strom 250 SX indeed has been one of the most elusive motorcycle for us till date. But then again, surprises happen most unexpectedly. Recently we got an opportunity to not only ride the Suzuki V-Strom 250 SX but also tour with it. Yes, riding through the scenic landscape and coming back with some “wow imagery” is every auto-journos dream, isn’t it?
Well not this particular weekend. With the heavy showers, traffic and broken roads it made the art of maneuvering itself another ride plan altogether. Riding alongside owners of the Suzuki V-Strom 250 SX is indeed a positive and uplifting experience. No matter what, be it the love for the motorcycles or the common grounds on which they bond talks about the binding factor of the Suzuki V-Strom 250 SX.
Suzuki V-Strom 250 SX – The Ride
The Suzuki V-Strom 250 SX weekend tour – “Engage” took us to Novotel Imagica near Khopoli. In the morning we assembled at a dealership near Swargate, Pune. While waited for fellow participants to arrive, those present interacted with each other over tea and completed the pre-ride formalities. At the designated time the ride leader briefed the congregation about the route, safety protocol and ride formation. We rode down the Mumbai Bangalore Bypass Highway through Lonavala to reach our destination just off of Khopoli. Enroute we made a pit stop enroute to a scrumptiously laid out brunch.
Weekend traffic, ongoing construction and limited visibility brought down average cruising speeds to under 60 kmph.but, more on that later. This ride saw over 30 riders from Pune with about 70+ riders coming from Mumbai. With a late lunch and some rest, the riders shared camaraderie over karaoke, anecdotes and merriment. With a rather late night and a lazy morning we took our time to ride back to our destination – The dealership in Pune.
Suzuki V-Strom 250 SX – Design and Styling:
The V-Strom 250 SX takes on the Adventure touring form factor with a 19″/17″ wheel setup. Reminiscent of its larger V-Strom siblings, it get the similar design genetics. The upright riding stance, tall windscreen, and beak-like front fairing add to the motorcycle’s off-road look. Topped off with a comfortable seat for both rider and pillion, the bike has a provision to install and OEM top rack for carrying luggage.
Suzuki V-Strom 250 SX – Engine and Performance:
Powered by the Gixxer sourced 249cc, single-cylinder, oil-cooled engine, the V-Strom 250 SX offers a decent balance of power and fuel efficiency. As per the console, we got about 28 kmpl efficiency. Which, given aggressive riding with minimal breaks is justified. In normal highway cruising this should touch or even cross the 35 kmpl mark.
The engine produces a maximum power output of 26.1 horsepower and a peak torque of 22.2 Nm. Yes, for the commoner or for someone this is Latin so lets translate. In every gear it gives you ample power without having to actually shift. We hit the ton without barely touching the 5th gear and the V-Strom 250 SX did not feel stressed at all. In fact, it had a lot more in store!
Suzuki V-Strom 250 SX – Ride Quality and Handling:
Without a doubt the V-Strom 250 SX offers a comfortable and stable ride, and we believe it is the suspension and seat cushioning jointly at play. The long-travel suspension and relatively higher ground clearance made it ideal for the various road conditions that came our way on this ride. Indeed, the bike is nimble and agile while negotiating obstacles on the road.While the upright riding position provides good visibility and reduces fatigue it can be challenging when riding through strong crosswinds.
