Yamaha R15 v2.0 – Lekha Moundekar answers the call of the blue

At the anvil of the last weekend Yamaha Motor India – Motorcycles, gave us a glimpse into the darkside of Japan with the launch of the Yamaha MT15. As a brand, Yamaha has been popular among the young male motorcyclists in the recent past ever since its foray into the Indian market. Today we have Lekha Moundekar who answered the call of the blue a few eons ago and picked up the second iteration of the immensely popular Yamaha R15. Lets hear what she has to say…

My association with riding began when ..

I always had interest and fascination towards motorcycles. So when I was tall enough at the age of 13 yrs, I learnt a motorcycle. It was Hero Honda CD 100.

Back then (in 2005) licence was not such a compulsion and so I used to enjoy riding to school on weekends during my 10th grade extra batches. I clearly remember the surprise and awe filled expressions of people I used to get on roads and at school.

It’s been a never ending journey since then.

My options were

I always knew I wanted to be a Yamaha sports bike owner. So apart from Yamaha R15 V1.0 I never shortlisted any other bike.

I chose my current bike because

I first came in contact with Yamaha, when I rode my cousin’s RX100. Being used to CD 100’s low pick up, I jumped to halt as soon I kicked RX100, twice. It was the 3rd kick that I got a hang of this powerful machine. The speed, the sound, the pick up I was in complete awe of this bike. So this incident made it very clear that I want to own a Yamaha engine for sure

I was always keen to own a sporty bike. So when Yamaha launched R15, which was the first affordable sports bike in India, I knew this was it. The Yamaha R15 V2 launch was just perfect with mind blowing design, split seat, better pick up and fuel efficiency. Thus, choosing a bike was simple for me

Being on and off around my bike, 66000+ kms are done so far.

My most memorable rides

With my Yamaha R15 every monsoon gives me a new memorable ride. Going ahead, I hope to have many more memorable rides

I would recommend/ Not recommend that girls/ ladies buy this bike because

I would say the USP of Yamaha R15 is light weight and low sitting which enables easy handling, for women. This comfort prompts to accelerate the bike to its max. I feel the engine is a bit under-powered.

Many riders forget the very important part, that this bike has a bend forward seating. So boys & girls, men & ladies with any kinda back issue, please avoid this buy. Rest I have been more than happy with my association with my bike for these many years.
