The prelude
Without these elements all I could do was go shadow boxing? So I figured lets just go out on track take to simple laps and be done with it, after all except dual channel ABS what extra fizz has this KTM DUKE 200 MY2020 got?? After a quick photo session while trying to soak up some vitamin D we were called in to acquaint ourselves with the KTM DUKE 200 MY2020, read on to to more
DESIGN
The KTM DUKE 200 MY2020 gets a completely new form which is inspired by the iconic 1290 Super Duke R. This directly puts the motorcycle in the big biking league and certainly offers a premium feel. The headlamp is taken KTM 250 DUKE and with its DRLs it is certainly the best thing to happen to this bike. With the all new frame the KTM Duke 200 gets the tailgate and grab rail from its elder siblings. This all new rear end certainly makes it quite the package.
FRAME
The bike gets upgraded with an all-new lightweight split trellis frame. I wish this came in seven ago. But then it surely was worth the delay. With the enhancements in the aftermarket design and colour department over the years there is a lot of room to play with colors.
FUEL TANK
Increased fuel capacity to 13.5 liters from the current 10.2 liters. This is my personal favorite because it allows the rider to enjoy a 30% additional range. For long distance rides this effectively reduces the time spent on refueling by 30% and thus saves on travel time. Simply put the time between sunrise and sunset is all the more shorter.
POWER
The KTM 200 Duke packs 25PS of class leading power and 19.3Nm of torque as the outgoing model. That translates to ZERO POWER LOSS unlike most other motorcycles in their BS6 incarnation. Taking these figures to track on a “stock setup” of the suspension and air pressure the motorcycle topped out at 131 kmph on the test track. While it may not be significant here, there was no significant change in the exhaust note.
Comfort
Legend has it that when you sit on the pillion seat, you are just adding to the rear end dynamics. The first iteration would have meant extra room in the garage to make way for a mattress. All this because of a seat! The All new chiseled and well cushioned pillion seat does not only add to the cutting edge styling it adds to the ergonomics too. Now one need not worry about trading in their oranges for Sunday lemon purchasing machines.
Her perspective
Adding to this new found comfort is the all new grab rail that gave my test pillion (read photographer) a scheme to upgrade her Bajaj Dominar pillion seat with this find after a quick spin in the pit lane area. Additionally i figured why limit the lady to just being a pillion? In the gentlemen fashion I offered her to take her place on the rider seat. As compared to her Bajaj Dominar (2018). She found the seat to be more comfortable and offered her optimum leg room. This confidence coming in from a budding motorcyclist who has barely clocked a thousand kilometers overall certainly is worth the extra read. For Ladies who want to take the throttle and just not be a mere pillion the KTM scalability is beyond breaking stereotypes.
HANDLING
Indeed i saved the best for the last. The handling and braking of the motorcycle is a surprise package indeed. The all-new 2020 KTM 200 Duke with dual channel ABS powered by BOSCH. This offers better bite on top speeds and quicker stops before entering corners. Now that I have mentioned it, the bike is certainly nimble on corners with sufficient room for knees when you want to tightly lock them in. unlike its predecessor the seat design and cover allow for quick shifts on and off the seat while riding.
The KTM DUKE 200 MY2020 comes at a PRICE Rs. 1,72,749 (ex-showroom Delhi), that is a price difference of Rs. 10,496
All in all for the above mentioned price the KTM dukes starts the year 2020 in an all new avatar and while this motorcycle is pegged for the young generation it is ready to take on the young at heart while stopping by to woo the ladies. No matter what the opinion or tag lines this bike holds up to being an eternal hooligan and a rather suave one at that. After all opinions and are just subjective to ones perspective …
