Mahindra Mojo 300ABS BSIV – prologue

A year from today the Mahindra Mojo 300ABS BSIV set forth on the Indian Roads. The motorcycle is much like its predecessor the Mahindra Mojo UT 300. In terms of structure it has the same elements. Be it the 21 liter marquee fuel tank or the twin pod headlamp cluster. On occasion of the 2019 Distinguished Gentleman’s ride we had an opportunity to ride along legends on that day. City riding is just a good job half done. We need to hit the road..

Mahindra Mojo 300ABS BSIV – look and feel?

The Mahindra Mojo 300ABS BSIV unit in question is a stock motorcycle. Pirelli Angel CT tires in place of the MRF Zappers. The same all blue color as the UT300. This iteration gets a dual channel ABS stopper along with fuel injection, its adios to the fuel cork and hello to the fuel pump. The owner being an avid traveler has the added tidbits for accessories:

  • Lluvia ADV guard
  • Top rack and Saddle stay from LLUVIA
  • Auxiliary fog lamps
  • Bobo USB charger
  • Mobile Mount
  • Matchpoint GPS

Mahindra Mojo 300ABS BSIV – 1st Impressions

Riding down the city roads it seems like known territory at first. A responsive yet sophisticated throttle tells you that the fuel injected is at work. Adding to the fervour are the brakes, The Bybres bite into the road with the ABS system keeping you from swerving off your course. The riding stance is the same in all variants. The pillion however, is where the differentiation lies, more on that later.

Comparing one against the other is like Tony Stark differentiating between the “MARKS”. Certainly ever armour is purpose built and may or not have improvements over the others. What can definitely be pointed out at first are:

  • Tyres – Diablo Rosso 2 VS MRF Zapper VS Pirelli Angel CT
  • Front Suspension – USDs vs the conventional telescopic tubes
  • The brakes – J Juan vs Bybre 
  • Seat – XT300 vs UT300 and 300ABS
  • Power figures – well this is really interesting, like slice and dice interesting!
  • Dual exhaust VS Single exhaust


Much has been said in terms of these online. Nevertheless, The Rosso’s are the best while carving corners. The MRF zappers is the sleeper here. It is clearly the underdog here. The Pirelli although fairly new can be a replacement for those wanting premium. It takes off from where the Rosso’s left off and is the middle ground where the MRF tyres come up. The ride involved highways, city and a bit of slush filled offroading. The Pirellis didn’t really disappoint.

Front Suspension

Apart from cost and look, the absence of the USDs make the Mojo a bit lighter. The telescopic forks with the brace inspires a lot of confidence. The Mahindra Mojo UT300 wasn’t just a scaled down version it added the lean factor too. Coupled with a 110 biased tyre be it stock or aftermarket, you do not really missed the premium Rossos


Moving over from JJuan, the Bybre’s open up a lot of options. There are a whole lot of aftermarket options and similar form factor sintered lot for those who want it. The Bybre’s do offer adequate bite and instill confidence when the ABS kicks in.


To my fellow blogger reading this, I should have put this in the “Ergonomics”, no? Well I think not. Certainly the adjustments to overall riding stance is dismal. The option for front risers and handlebar risers allow for a taller motorcycle. However, where almost all major manufacturers gave up the chase Team Mahindra picked up the scent. For all good reason touring motorcycles are “Rider Comfortable”. What about the pillion? contrary to critics, this is where MTWL scored.

They made the pillion seat as much comfortable, Here’s why:
  • The seat cushioning is softer yet denser that the competition
  • It is longer and wider, yet accommodates most body types
  • Best in class under thigh support makes the perfect cherry in the pie
  • The stock seat cover avoids any unwanted sliding in braking situations
  • Sans the spilt seat form factor it maintains its sportbike look without going commuter

To sum it up, you can go play in the hills with the boys, come back and in the evening take her out on a date. Unless, you missed a spot while washing the bike she wont notice the underpinnings stashed with memoirs of the morning’s adventure.

Power Figures

Well everybody talks bhp and Torque. Certainly, direct comparison cannot be made here. However, the new motorcycle takes the mantle of the bulletproof engine over rather well. The difference in power is dismal. The Mahindra Mojo still cruises along the highway seamlessly.

Now lets talk about Torque. Generally, there’s little room to feel the torque out. Courtesy the host I got an opportunity slide and glide my way back to tarmac. Since I was reluctant to take the motorcycle in, one of the fellow motorcyclists did. On the way back, I figured why not. Taking it slow, the Mojo with all its bulk managed to get the street tyres off the slippery grass and slush on the main road.

Dual exhaust VS Single exhaust

Dual exhaust VS Single exhaust – there does not seem to be any difference in sound. However the absence of a second muffler mean lesser dead weight. With or without the DB killers the Mojo across its incarnations has always had a sweet exhaust note.


Aftermarket options (Credits to Abhimanyu Watve)

To make your ride more comfortable you can install a host of aftermarket accessories. Once can opt for the following aftermarket parts like:

  • Touring Accessories
  • Performance air filter
  • Security system
  • Fuel additives
  • Aftermarket exhaust
  • Tyres
  • and so forth.

In addition to these, there are other aftermarket options available.

VERDICT – Get your Mojo or just tango over…

The 2019 Mahindra Mojo 300ABS BSIV is quite a package with its handling and other dynamics. Even though the stock tyres are adequate there are other options that are explorable. The absence of a fuel injector and ABS made most look over the motorcycle. The twin pod headlamp are disturbing to some, but lets admit it like one of the scribes said its a love hate relationship.

The Mahindra Mojo in its current form is not a mere jack of all trades. It is an all-rounder that is eyeing to be the captain of the team.
