Mumbai Falcons set for three-car 2022 Formula Regional Asian Championship campaignJanuary 10, 2022
Mumbai Falcons Racing Limited announces that the team will compete in the 2022 Formula Regional Asian Championship. The team, established to provide a sustainable motorsports team and ecosystem to accelerate the growth of Indian motorsports, will field three cars in the upcoming series.
Coming from a successful 2021 run that featured three wins and multiple podium finishes with a two-car line-up, the Indian outfit is set to increase its presence, and will collaborate with Italian squad PREMA Racing.
The driver package will be headlined by Arthur Leclerc, who will be the most experienced man on the stable. The 21-year-old racer from Monte Carlo has one full FIA Formula 3 season under his belt, in addition to entering Formula Regional two years ago. Coming from his maiden Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine season, Swede Dino Beganovic will be in for some mileage as he prepares for his second year in the same championship. Leclerc and Beganovic will take part in the complete Asian season.
Colombian Sebastian Montoya will contest the first three rounds of the season. The 16-year-old second-generation racer will make the step from Formula 4 to Formula Regional ahead of a potential full European campaign. For the final two rounds, the car will be driven by Italian and German F4 Champion Oliver Bearman, as the 16-year Brit prepares for a challenging transition to FIA Formula 3. Leclerc, Beganovic, and Bearman will all represent the famed Ferrari Driver Academy training programme.
The Formula Regional Asian Championship will also serve as a perfect introduction to the 2022 Formula Regional and Formula 4 Indian Championships, which will start in November 2022.
“We are delighted to enter our second Formula Regional Asian Championship season. The success we achieved last year was a great start and definitely helped the growth of India’s motorsports movement, which is essential to our programme. We are proud to field drivers from the prestigious Ferrari Driver Academy, and we are looking forward to working with PREMA Racing. We cannot wait for the season to start and while we expect it to be quite challenging, competing against the best in the world is always an exciting prospect.” said Moid Tungekar, CEO of Mumbai Falcons.
